Area 53 - Photo 5 - Cherry Wins!!!

Don Cherry's 'Top Prospect' team defeated Bobby Orr's squad 4-2 in a talent display which stretched over two days, January 19th and 20th at Windsor's WFCU Centre. The bonus is I had the rare pleasure of capturing the team's winning group portrait. What a cool thing. I'd like thank my good friend Rob Adams who has been covering the Spits and junior hockey with me for almost a year now. It's been so great following the team so closely like I did when I was younger. Check out our stories and photos on my website http://www.toddshearon.com/.
Windsor Spitfires' Taylor Hall assisted on the game's winning goal and was later named the game mvp. He's ranked to go number one in this year's NHL Draft, but only time will tell. As much as it hurts to say it, I just hope my Edmonton Oilers just play to draft Hall, I would be such an excited Oiler fan if I got to see Tayler Hall and Jordan Eberle of the Regina Pats play together in Edmonton next year...my fingers and toes and arms and legs are all crossed.
Below are a few extras I liked all from the same night.
Enjoy!

Area 53 - Photo 4 - Ice Fountain

I know Cale is going to make fun of me because my photo of the week is now technically late. Reason being, I wasn't at work all day, and I didn't have an internet connection at all in order to post this photo on time...until now. It's about 3:45am and I haven't gone to bed yet so I'm saying this is still on time.

Anyway, I took this photo on Sunday night in an attempt to get a cool shot of the blue Christmas light along the riverfront with Detroit's RenCen building in the background. By the time I got to the river the fog was so thick you literally couldn't see Detroit at all.

Long story short, I ended up taking a few photos you'll see below of a random coast guard boat that was docked, before my buddy Johnny and I noticed a random fountain was blowing water out like it wasn't negative five degrees outside. What the hell is a fountain doing running in the middle of the winter? Sweet tax dollars at work!

This was the only night I took any photos all week, but I think I'm liking this pic more as time goes on.

Considering it's actually Tuesday, January 19 right now, I've got to take this chance to say 'Happy Birthday' to my brother Brigham. Enjoy your day!

Area 53 - Photo 3 - Dillon Snowfall

It's already week three of our 'Area 53' project and I found myself almost too busy to obtain any new photographs in order to get my post up on time. With the clock working against me today, and with a busy schedule to boot, I thought about my options and decided to take a walk in the snowstorm during my lunch to take a picture of Dillon Hall.

Dillon Hall is located at the centre of the University of Windsor's campus, where I work. Architected and built in 1928 around the original Assumption College Roman Catholic building, it has a very ghostly and unique design to it. I thought the snow would accentuate the photograph even more but it only proved to cause me problems as it did nothing more than melt all over my lens.

With that in mind, I decided to take a shot of the the sign and windows above the buildings main entrance, not the best photo in the world, but I like it. I'll have to try again when it's not blizzarding outside, maybe even in the fall when the building's ivy covered brick is glowing with autumn colour.

Area 53 - Photo 2 - Festive Entrance

It's January 4th, the first Monday of our 'Area 53' photo of the week project.
This is a photo of a random house's entrance taken on New Year's Day.
I love the red and white lights coupled with the dark shadows leading to the front entrance of the house.

Below are a few extra photos I took the week prior to today.

Please check out these and more at

Area 53 - Photo 1 - New Year's Freeze!

Area 53 - Photo 1 (New Year's Day - 2010)

New Year's Freeze - Todd Shearon

This is the first photo in what my friend Cale Best and I have called 'Area 53'. It's quite simply a challenge between us to showcase some of our photography which will be taken throughout the year to come. We hope to challenge each other during 2010 to help become better photographers along the way.

The deal is to post one photo a week on a blog and/or on our websites for the entire 2010 year, you know we gotta keep the fifteen people that view them a reason to keep coming back.

Every photo has to be posted on Monday of each week and it had to be taken the week prior up to the day it gets posted. Fifty-three photographs in all. Area 53, get it? haha. Now sometimes we might find ourselves taking more photos one week and not so many the next. Also, we're bound to like more than one photo we've taken in any given week so we decided to have an 'additional photo' section for every week as well. Like I said, some weeks we might be on picture overload and others it might be slim pickins, some will be simple photographs and others will be artsy as hell. You never know what you might see. Either way we hope anybody who stops by to check them out will take the time to drop us a message to tell us what they think, or post a comment somewhere. Thanks.

I titled this photograph 'New Year's Freeze' simply because it was taken during the process of making an ice rink in a friend's backyard for his two year old son Peyton to skate on New Year's Day, and of course us too. It's clearly a hose propped up on a little kid's chair in order to flood the rink area, but I thought it looked cool. It warmed up yesterday so the rink won't be ready until tomorrow, but it'll be worth the wait. Maybe I should've called the photo, "Day After New Year's Freeze'.

Hope everyone makes the most of this new year and decade.

One Love & Unity!

Todd
