Area 53 - Photo 27 - Windsor/Detroit Horseshoe

I had the unique privledge of going out on the Detroit River in my friend's boat over the weekend, so I went a little photo crazy.
The cool thing is, I managed to get the exact photo I hoped for...a horseshoe panaramic of the Detroit skyline including the Ambassador Bridge and a little bit of downtown Windsor.
Imagine standing at the edge of Windsor riverfront (more on the west side of downtown) facing Detroit and do a full 200degree head turn from left to right, my photo of the week is pretty much that.
Sorry, they're downsized so much, but they were ginourmous files.
The rest of my pics are all from my weekend cruise.
Thanks Johnny!
Enjoy the photos.

Area 53 - Photo 26 - Moon Through The Mist

With every intention of fulfilling my photo of the week obligation upon arrival to a work conference in London, Ontario, I became instantly consumed and unable to find a single minute to seek out what would be my 26th photo of the year.
It wasn't technically taken before Monday, but this photo still stands as my photo of the week, for last week.
I stepped out of a DJ showcase to wander about downtown London looking to be inspired when I came across this beautiful fountain I noticed through the trees.
I took the second photo first before making my way down to the base of the fountain.
Hoping to get the moon in the image, this was the best all the mist would allow me.
I'm actually really diggin this pic. I hope you do too.
Enjoy!
See you next Monday.

Area 53 - Photo 25 - Something's Fishy

I'm posting my blog a day late this week due to adhering to birthday plans.
I had pig and fish for my birthday this year, and by that I mean my day started when I volntarily attended the routine slaughtering of pigs.
I know it sounds gross, but it was truly enlightening to see how the food we eat makes its way to our local meat retailers.
Of course I didn't take any photographs of my morning endeavor, but on the same property there was a fish pond where I wanted to take a few quick shots.
I had to go back on the fly later in the day, but only for a few quick minutes.
I wasn't able to get exactly what I was hoping for, but i'll surely go back and share what I get from it.
It may sound crazy, but these fish actually get right out of the water on their bellies to grab food, it's insane.
I know they were a little shy and I didn't give them the space they needed to get right out of their pool.
As far as these go, I really love the colours that show up, as well as that of the fish themselves.
Before I finish I would like to point out these aren't your regular little goldfish, these things are ginormous. The yellow fish in the last photo would easily tip the scale at about 15 pounds, so don't be decieved.
Enjoy, see you next week.

Area 53 - Photo 24 - Striking!!!

How's this for a rare change? I'm early with my blog.
This week I went a little photo happy. But I enjoyed every minute of it.
I managed to capture some lighting. I was totally stoked.
It's not the coolest scenery in the world, but it's where I was when the storm came, and it came and went by fast. I literally found myself running more than a block away from my buddy's house when the lightning started flashing in the sky. I barely took a couple photos and had to move my tripod to keep up with where the lightning was striking. I used a 10 second open exposure to catch the different flashes, and every time I got to see what I got on the camera display I grew more and more excited. I completely got wrapped up in the moment.
Otherwise, I also got a picture I liked from the Red Bull Air Race practice on Friday, as well as a few from a lunch I shared with a bazillion geese and goslings.
If you want to see some more photos from the my lunch with the goslings click here.
I hope you enjoy these pictures the same way I enjoyed taking them.

Area 53 - Photo 23 - First Strike!

So like Cale, I was in a quest to catch some lightning on film, or whatever you call it now.
I also got a hold of my camera a bit too late to catch any of the amazing strokes of lightning that hit our city last week. There were a few quick flares and bolts but it didn't look like I got anything.
Thinking I was without a photo for last week, and of course late as usual on posting my blog, I went out to take some pictures in front of Caesars Windsor.
When I got home to go through what I had from tonight I looked through the lightning attempts for the first time. To my surprize, I found a photo containing a little bit of lightning.
And I mean a little bit. But a little is more than none, so I was excited, and since that picture was taken during the week it was supposed to be, I made it my photo of the week.
F'n eh Cotton, f'n eh! My first lightning photo, as lame as a result it might be.
I will get a better one someday I hope, again like Cale, it's now also become a mission for me too.
Even though I should use the other two for next week I just couldn't wait to post them.
I love them, and all the cool colours. I hope you do too.
Enjoy.
