Area 53 (2011) - Photo 15 - Skylink Detroit River
Only a two minute walk from my house is an old school that is now known as Science City. Outside it's front door is an old cable car of sorts with the words 'Skylink Detroit River' on the side of it. I haven't personally gone inside the building to learn more about it thinking I could easily find it on the internet, but so far have been unsuccessful. This is all I could find: In front of the Science City building on Marion st. Windsor Ontario Canada. I assume this is prototype of a cable car which was proposed to span the Detroit River between Windsor Ontario and Detroit Michigan. So that's all I've got for you. My photo of the week is my attempt at being artsy and that crap, the other two are just so you could see the building and the whole skylink in front of the doors. Enjoy! t

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 14 - Hoot Hoot
This is a macro photograph I took of a U.S. dollar bill. I've zoomed in specifically on the '1' on the front upper right side of the note. If you look closely at the top left corner of the frame around the '1' you can see a very small owl. This may seem very small, so imagine how tiny it really is when you hold a dollar in your hand. The dollar is covered with images that suggest different things regarding the 'Illuminati', 'Freemasons' and 'New World Order' such as the all-seeing eye and more. An owl is the Pagan symbol of wisdom. It also sees in the dark, another layer of the owl symbolism, to assure its initiates that the Illuminati does its bidding at night. In fact, the landscape of Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. perfectly resembles an owl from an aerial view. I couldn't make this up. Google it. I didn't believe it either, then I was taking photos of the Chicago Public Library from outside and it has giant owls perched on all four corners as well as the sides of the building's roof. Coincidence? Well, it's everywhere in America. So why is it really on the dollar bill? Read up on it and you decide. t

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 13 - Barry 'Short'
Although Barry Sanders rarely fell short in the yardage department, he's 'short' in this photo because he's only 6" tall. I decided to try a macro photo of an action figure after I really like the one I did a couple weeks ago of A-Rod and the Yankees manual. For some reason this one was far more difficult. I had to set up table lamps all around it to fix the light situation or lack thereof, only to cause even more shadows than I started with. I almost gave up. This is the result. Barry stands in front of a souvenir mini Detroit Lions helmet. t Click here to see Cale's photo(s) of the week.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 12 - Sunset Ditch
Cale and I actually went out together to take some pics.
We didn't think the sunset was going to amount to much but after some aimless county driving it proved us wrong.
There wasn't enough time to really get anything I liked except for this one, which is actually the first photo I took all night.
Cu next week.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 11 - Sauce Funky
This is a photo of John Rodgers from the band Mic Lordz & Sauce Funky from their performance on Monday night at the Hayloft in Mt. Clemens, Michigan in support of Cen Dog from Cypress Hill. I messed with the saturation on this pic and colourized it a little bit to give it an almost sepia tone with only a hint of the green from his gloves and headbands as well as the red from the light shining on him. Area 53 (2011) - Photo 10 - Party's Over!
This is a photo I had to ask permission to take of what used to be the Party Warehouse on Walker Road in Windsor. Which is why I named it 'Party's Over!'
The building also housed The Clean Depot and Champion Products.
Arrests were made and I understand they were charged with arson.
Hope you like my happy photo of destruction.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 09 - Playing With Myself
Cale is always big on doing self portraits, and me, not so much. Except for the one I did of my reflection in a glass of Dr. Pepper, remember? But I don't think it qualifies. This is an idea I had for a while but needed the time, set and the know-how to pull it off in Photoshop. I took four separate photos on delay with the poker table and all the props set in place not to be moved. I changed between each photo. Other than that, I had to think out what each player's hand would be and ultimately what each of the four of me would be doing in that second of time. Otherwise, I learned how to use stacking and masking to make it all come together. This is my test image, I'm going to go back and improve on it for sure. I hope you dig it. t Click here to see Cale's photo(s) of the week.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 08 - A-Rod Stadium
This is a photo I shot in macro of an Alex Rodriguez action figure standing in front of a New York Yankees team guide with a photo of an early Yankee Stadium on the cover. It's a little mix of the old and the new. I thought it would look cool anyway. t Click here to see Cale's photo(s) of the week.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 07 - Super Icicle
My photo of the week is an icicle hanging from my buddy's eavestrough on his back porch.
I flashed a little light on it while shooting with an open exposure.
It was way too cold and the space was too limited with my tripod to get what I was hoping to achieve, but I'm happy with this as my best result.
You can't really see the size of the icicle in this picture, but it's honestly between 3-4 feet long.
It was huge.
I hope you dig it!
Cu next week.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 06 - Brownie Punch
This photo is pretty much self explanatory. It's a shot from the rafters of a fight featuring newly acquired Spitfire Jeff Brown. I like the way he's coming across his face with a right bomb. Check out the interview I just did with Jeff Brown for my Spitfire of the Month article here. Enjoy! t Click here to see Cale's photo(s) of the week.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 05 - Curious Fawn
This week Cale and I got our first chance to go out and take some photos together.
We headed to Ojibway Park in hopes to catch a glimpse of a deer or two is we were lucky.
Our wish was granted and at one point we were surrounded by them.
Here are some of the best of what I got, but I personally like Cale's worst better than my best.
But the fawn in my pic of the week is definitely a cutie.
Note the deer in the second photo has a broken leg it was favouring the whole time.
We felt sorry for it but there's nothing we could really do about it either.
I might actually like that photo better than my first one, it has a kind of classic look to it or someting, I don't know, what do you think?
Anyway, I hope you like em.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 04 - Michigan & Wacker Intersection (Chicago)
I wasn't able to take any photos this past week and Cale was cool with me posting a picture that was taken the week prior, also from Chicago.
This is an open exposure I took of the Michigan and Wacker intersection almost right outside the doors of the Hard Rock Hotel where we stayed.
It was freezing, but I sat on the cold concrete long enough to get this shot with a bus, some cars and all three colour street lights lit up.
Note the famous clock building on the left and the Chicago Times building on the right side of the street.
Enjoy.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 03 - Chicago Shines At Night
My second offering of the year is a panaramic photo I took of Chicago's skyline at night from outside of the aquarium on the city's waterfront.
I took a ton more photos in Chicago but I'm without time to edit and go through them all like I want to. Sorry.
I hope you like this one. I'm actually realy excited about it.
It's the third major city night skyline I've done in less than a year.
Enjoy.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 02 - Chicago (Theater) Shines So Bright
So I'm late to start this year.
Life has been exhausting and the holiday wasn't exactly that.
I did manage to go to Chicago with my girlfriend, and despite being really sick for most of the trip, I was able to get out a bit and snap a few photos.
Most easily was the old Chicago Theater on State Street.
I love old theaters and city history. This marquis says it all. I love it! And it was right around the corner from the hotel.
I'm going to post my photo from this Monday that just passed by tomorrow sometime.
Once I'm caught up I hope to stay on top of things.

Area 53 (2011) - Photo 01 - Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
I went to see a performance of Disney's Mary Poppins at the Detroit Opera House. It's the only photo I took over the last week of the holidays and this is actually taken with my iPhone. It's a panaramic before the show started and all the lights went out. There was no photography allowed during the show but I scrambled to get my phone out to take a picture of Mary as she flew up into the balcony only a few rows in front of our seats with a giant spotlight on her. Unfortunately the light went out on her before I was snap it. So this is my 'photo of the week' to kick off Cale and mine's second year of AREA 53. I hope you enjoy! t Click here to check out Cale's photo(s) of the week.
